Hey wolfy! I wanted to ask if you had any advice to draw backgrounds because I'm trying to get better at them, but I just don't understand how to make them work well enough?

I don't know if you have any tricks or tips to share but it would help a lot, your backgrounds are amazing!

wolfythewitch answered:

Value grouping I find helps a lot! My professor taught me this, and actually gave a name for it lmao. You basically take your drawing and separate it into three parts, the foreground, middle ground, and background. Each one will have a certain value range they stay within. The foreground can be the darkest, then the middle, then the BG, or vice versa. Essentially just making sure it’s easy to read by ensuring your values won’t blend too much. And then you choose a focal point. If your FG and MG are similar in values, then your BG will pop out. If you MG and BG are similar, then your FG will pop out. Here’s some stuff I didn’t for class that might illustrate it better svdjdgd

Michelangelo's Moses is a marble sculpture made in 1513–15. One of the many details of this masterpiece is one very small muscle in the forearms that contracts only when lifting the pinky, otherwise it is invisible. Moses is lifting the pinky, therefore that tiny muscle is contracted

reblog if you also just flexed your pinky arm muscle that you didn't know you had to see if you had it and it was there

It's plug time on the tumbles as well!

Beyond the Western Deep, the webcomic I art/edit for (in collaboration with writer Alex Kain) launched a Kickstarter this morning to print our third volume! finally! We've got some neat rewards available, including an ambitious stretch goal to unlock a paperback omnibus edition of the first three volumes.

We've also, uh... already hit 50% of the base goal in less than four hours??? I really appreciate those of you who have already chipped in, and hope we can knock a lot of these stretch goals down before the campaign is over!

Do you think Jesus could predict people in 2000 years saying poggers and doing fortnite dances

wolfythewitch answered:

The fact that he foresaw this and still found it in himself the strength to die on the cross is a true testament to his character
